Grade 5
Philosophy
I have a deep love for children and I have a natural desire to help them grow in all aspects of their academic lives. However, I am especially passionate about ELA and the humanities. I feel that being able to read and assess a text with confidence is a skill that will set them up for greater success, regardless of the career path they choose. I also believe reading teaches empathy, a skill that will enrichen all aspects of their lives.
Grading
Students' final grade for ELA is 60% homework, class participation, and small writing assignments . Tests and major writing assignments make up 40% of their grade. Their homework is largely graded based on completion, unless it is obvious they have just marked random answers. If their homework is missed, they can bring it the next day for half credit. They also can come speak to me at any time to take on an extra writing assignment for extra credit added to a test of their choice. Their homework is usually assigned on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Their homework is almost always in their Grammar Practice workbooks. Please contact me at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
