Physical Education & Health
Welcome students and parents! A little about me:
I taught PE for 5 years at St. Andrew's Country Day School in Kenmore until its closing and am thrilled to be here at OLV! When I am not teaching I play recreational touch football almost year-round and in a kickball league part of the year. I also enjoy disc golf, park golf (ask me about it sometime!), and biking. One of my favorite things to do is cook, especially making some delicious game day recipes for Bills games.
Grading policy:
Physical Education: 80% daily effort, participation, conduct, 20% assessments
8th grade Health: 60% class work, 20% projects, 20% tests/quizzes
Physical Education- In March students continued with our hockey unit, including a visit from the Buffalo Sabres Students of the Game program on March 11. Everyone enjoyed their visit, and all students received T shirts and a voucher that can be redeemed for a free ticket to a Sabres home game. Middle school students concluded the OLVHL with our playoffs and championships games. Younger students built on their skills and got to try shooting and scoring goals, some classes played full hockey games. Before starting basketball, we played a couple games of Quadzilla which was a hit.
Finally, just in time for March Madness, we started our basketball unit with some shooting competitions, leading into forming a basketball league in class for this unit as well. Our younger students are practicing their dribbling skills and coming along nicely so far.
Health 8- Eighth grade students completed an assignment that supplements the articles in the February 2025 article of Scholastic Choices magazine. This issue had articles on the topics of: debating whether schools should ban cell phones, some basic cooking skills for teens to have, the story of a teenager who swims long distances to raise money to fight cancer, setting boundaries in healthy relationships, facts about the ingredients in sports/energy drinks, and a career profile of a basketball coach. Additionally, we started a unit on the topic of alcohol.
Philosophy: I believe all students should be provided with a variety of activities that allows them to explore several different ways to be physically active. The goal is to provide students with enjoyment, competition and motivation to want to be physically active through the remainder of their lives. Students will also learn about what it means to live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
